How this is calculated · figures checked Oct 15, 2026

Attic floor area times the installed price per square foot of the insulation you choose (materials and labor), scaled for the R-value you want, plus removal of old insulation if you need it, adjusted to your state's price level. The published prices are treated as reaching R-38, a common attic target; other R-values scale the price in proportion to the R-value (R-49 needs about 29% more material than R-38). Where a source gives only a range, typical is its midpoint.
