How this is calculated

Starts from the average yearly NFIP premium for your type of flood zone (moderate-to-low risk B, C and X zones, or high-risk A and V zones) and scales it by how much coverage you choose compared with the average NFIP policy (about $1.3 trillion of coverage over nearly 4.7 million policies, so about $276,600 each). Low and high apply the spread between the lowest and highest state averages ($454 in Alaska and $1,590 in Connecticut, against $888 nationally). A home that isn't your main residence pays the higher $250 HFIAA surcharge instead of $25.
